- Center for substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP)- The sole federal organization with responsibility for improving accessibility and quality of substance abuse prevention services. Provides national leadership in the development of policies, programs, and services to prevent the onset of illegal drug use, underage alcohol, and tobacco use, and to reduce the negative consequences of using substances. - National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)- Supports over 85% of the world's research on the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction. Mission is to lead the nation in bringing the power of science to bear. Please visit www.nida.nih.gov
- Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS)- Provides statewide leadership for alcohol and other drug addiction prevention and treatment services. www.odadas.state.oh.us
- Ohio Parents for a Drug Free Youth- Statewide prevention organization and one of Ohio's leading resources for helping communities prevent the abuse of alcohol and use of other drugs. Receives funding from individual and corporate donors; Th Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services; The Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services; The Ohio Prevention and Education Resource Center. www.ohioparents.org
- Ohio Resource Network- This is a clearinghouse of prevention literature specific to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, prevention professionals, drug-free schools, and violence prevention. www.ebasedprevention.org
- Ohio Substance Abuse Monitoring Network- Collaborative venture funded by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) through contract with Wright State University. Primary mission is to provide a dynamic picture of substance abuse trends and newly emerging problem populations. www.med.wright.edu/citar/osam.html
- Parents Who Host Lose the Most- Campaign launched by Ohio Prents for a Drug-Free Youth which targets parents in order to educate them about the legal ramifications, health, and safety ricks of serving alcohol to teens other than their own children. www.ohioparents.org
- Partnership for a Drug-Free America- Exists to help kids and teens reject substance abuse of influencing attitudes through persuasive information. www.drugfree.org
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)- The federal agency charged with improving the quality and availability of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitative services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental illness. www.samhsa.gov
Warren County Drug and Alcohol Prevention Resources
- Alternative to Suspension (Ats)- Ats is a 4-session program for students who have been caught smoking against school policy. This is not a cessation program but is actually more of an educational program. This is also being offered free of charge. Contact: Maitreyee Sherman at 937-829-0077
- Chemical Awareness Program (CAP)- CAP is an eight-drug and alcohol education program provided to adults through Mental Health and Recovery Centers. Contact: Jane Johnson at 513-398-2551
- Coalition for a Drug-Free Greater Cincinnati (CDFGC)- CDFGC promotes drug-free environments for children and youth, and mobilizes and supports locally based community coalitions. Contact: Marietta Cappelletti at 513-751-8000.
- Coalition for a Drug-Free Warren County- A collaboration of Warren County agencies whose purpose is to promote and sponsor drug and alcohol prevention in the County. Contact: John Burke at 513-336-0070.
- Communities of Excellence- Empowers local communities to develop and maintain healthy, productive tobacco control coalitions that utilize a comprehensive approach, including awareness, education, outreach, and advocacy efforts. Contact: Kim Wheeler at 513-229-0616.
- Delta Project- A grant funded initiative to prevent intimate parter domestic violence in Franklin and Carlisle. Focus on healthy relationships and non-violent problem solving skills through community mobilization. Contact Janet Hoffman at 513-695-1185.
- Drug-Free Workplace- Staff training provided to small companies regarding drug and alcohol issues in the workplace. Those companies receiving training may receive reduction in workman's compensation fees. Contact: Jane Johnson at 513-398-2551.
- Early Intervention Program- An eight-hour education program provided to adolescents experimenting with drugs and/or alcohol. Provided by Mental Health and Recovery Centers. Contact: Jane Johnson at 513-398-2551.
- Family Involvement Training- A Strengthening Families Program of Mental Health and Recovery Centers designed to address drug and alcohol issues in the teen years. This group is for any Warren County parent who wishes to participate, however, those parents who have teens enrolled in substance abuse group treatment through our agency are required to attend both two-hour sessions. - Freedom from Smoking (FFS)- This is the adult cessation program that we offer. It is an eight session program that uses the cold turkey method to quitting. This program can be modified if necessary. The cost is $15 for program materials. Contact Maitreyee Sherman at 937-829-0077.
- Fresh Start- Provides training for volunteer facilitators to conduct a smoking cessation program in worksites, places of worship, libraries, or other community venues. Contact Kim Wheeler at 513-229-0616.
- Great American Smoke Out- An annual awareness day when the American Cancer Society encourages people to stop using tobacco products and to explore strategies for cessation. This event, the third Thursday of November, creates an opportunity to provide worksites, schools, and communities with information focusing on the dangers of tobacco and secondhand smoke. - Head Start Against Drugs- Preschool level prevention program that is provided in classroom setting. Contact Jane Johnson at 513-398-2551.
- Mental Health and Recovery Centers of Warren County (MHRC)- Contract agency of Mental Health Recovery Centers of Warren and Clinton Counties. Provides outpatient mental health and drug and alcohol services for residents of Warren County. Additional services are: consultation, prevention, crisis services, home-based and school-based services, community support, and psychiatric consultation. - Not On Tobacco (NOT)- This is a program designed more so for older students, especially in junior high and high school. NOT is a voluntary program through which self-selected smoking students go through a cessation program. It runs for 10 sessions with 4 additional booster sessions. - STAND- This is a mentoring program designed from a prevention standpoint. Again, this will be offered free of charge. Contact Maitreyee Sherman at 937-829-0077.
- Stay Tobacco-Free Athlete Mentor Program (STAMP)- This is a teen mentoring program where high school students go to elementary schools to teach the younger students about the dangers of smoking. There is a proficiency component to this program. It consists of 4 sessions which can be split up based on the teacher's schedule. This will also be offered free of charge. - Teens Against Chewing Tobacco in the Community (TACTIC)- This is an educational program about the dangers of smokeless tobacco. This program is available for all grade levels. These can be done with one session per week for two weeks or two sessions in one week, depending on what is best for the teacher. Contact Maitreyee Sherman at 937-829-0077.
